Capture Camera Clip

(both arca swiss and rc2 type plates)...Anyways, even if this review was sponsored (which, I don't think is a bad thing always), I did feel it was not that biased as I often see from other review sites. If your RRS L-bracket is Arca compatible, I don’t see why it would not work. The only change would be how the camera orients to the bracket; the camera would aim sideways instead of down. So, if you orient it with the lens pointed across your body it would probably be fine. That said, having hiked several days with a Sony a6000 attached to my backpack strap via a Capture Clip, I do think a D810 and lens would be pretty heavy up there. Sure, i understand why you won't feel safe in those environment.

Key Features of the Capture Clip

With similar goals to its standalone Ninja monitors/recorders, the Phone Ninja connects a camera's HDMI out to a compatible iPhone for live view, recording, live streaming and file transfer. "We have not made any significant progress since last year," says Sigma owner and CEO Kazuto Yamaki, when asked about the planned full-frame Foveon camera. But he still believes in the project and discussed with us what such a camera could still offer.

What's your bag?

I find it fraudulent to claim that the clip fits 6.4 cm straps without clarifying that you need to squeeze it. In this case, they can also say the clip fits straps that are 2 miles wide, long as you can just squeeze it to 5.6 cm. All I am saying from my original comment is that it is a VERY niche product thus where you can use it can be a bit limiting.

Just remember to release it before trying to get your camera out of the clip. You may find a slightly cheaper earlier version of the Capture Clip, but I highly recommend you invest in the Caoture Clip V3 – it’s smaller, lighter, more robust, grippier, doesn’t get stuck and has more secure bolts. It’ll fit most straps up to roughly 2.5-3 inches wide and 0.87 inches thick, depending on their rigidity. It turns out that the Capture Clip is the original Peak Design product. Then traveler Peter Dering went a trip, got frustrated with carrying his DSLR, and then went home and quit his job.

However, given the high quality of materials and high functionality, it doesn’t leave one feeling ripped off in any way. Fits any strap up to 6.4 cm (2.5”) wide and 1.5 cm (0.6") thick with standard thumbscrews or 2.2 cm (0.88”) thick with included hex-head clamping bolts. Take your camera out of Capture and put it directly into your ARCA-type tripod with the included standard plate quick-release plate.

I literally can’t imagine the number of shots we would have missed if we didn’t have our cameras within easy reach, like that one time a monkey tried to steal our backpack in Manuel Antonio. My Peak Design Capture Clip came with a standard Arca-Swiss-compatible plate, 2 hand-drive screws, 2 4mm hex screws, a hex wrench and a microfiber pouch to store everything in. In my version of the Capture Clip from 2020, the plate tends to get stuck in the clip a fair amount of the time. It also sometimes catches when I’m trying to slide it back in.

Might as well keep the camera protected, in there, between shooting scenes, only using the neckstrap for security while shooting. @Rob,Those are valid points, and I wouldn't enter dense forest where I can't see clearly under my foot, or where I might slip and fall with DSLR crushing on my chest / hip. Although clip helps me to 'run' without camera constantly banging my chest, I know a trip and fall front could cost my camera and lens (plus my bone). IF I need to get through those situation, I'd check myself and put everything tidy in my slingpack and secure them.

There are other products I've tried that do something similar, but I think this is the best one. I have the first version and use it all the time while hiking. It comes in use when you are climbing with your hands on the ground or when trying to grab a rock or a tree branch to make it up the climb. Instead of having to put the camera in the bag just to get it out a few min later to take a shot. The camera is secure and you can go on about your hike.

The Capture Clip is also now available in two colors; Silver and Black. In this case, you’re flipping the direction of the Capture Clip so that it attaches to a horizontal belt rather than a vertical strap, but the result is otherwise the same. An interesting design aspect of the Capture Clip is that the standard camera plate (unlike many Arca Swiss style plates) is completely square and therefore symmetrical.

Fully detaching your camera is also easier from the Capture Clip compared to a harness system, especially if you need to then attach the camera to a tripod. Let’s say a couple getting married wants an old school documentation of their ceremony, just a camera set up filming what happens (I have had to do this). With a harness, you need to detach the camera from the harness and re-attach it to an Arca Swiss plate before it’s ready to go. The main drawback of harnesses, in my experience, is how cameras dangle when not in use. This makes me worry that my cameras might swing into something, or into each other, which is anxiety-provoking and distracting. And similarly, when I kneel down to grab gear, the dangling camera in a harness can swing down toward what I’m reaching for (and sometimes all the way down to the ground).

I wouldn't attach camera on front either if i expect rocky surfaces or in dense woods. I also plan accordingly for the weather and never had risked damaging camera / my body. Just note that backpack strap and your belt aren't only places you can attach the clip (though it is mainly advertised and portraid that way). Its upto end user how to utilize the tool on given situation. For me, it has given me flexibility and accessibility at the same time, i don't regret buying two of v1 and still use them on mid-long hike/ or long day of photoshoot.

As mentioned above, Justin and I have been using these clips for years and move them around our various backpacks almost on a weekly basis. And yet, the Capture Clips have stood the test of time—while there’s visibly some minor wear and tear on the clips, they work as well today as they did when we originally bought them. Plus I always feel like a National Geographic photographer or something when I press the release button down and whip the camera out of its holster. There’s a release button on the side—you’ll simply depress it when you want to slide your camera out of the clip. You can also rotate this release button 90 degrees to lock the release button and prevent it from being accidentally pressed down.

The thumb screws (shown above) seemed pretty self-explanatory, no? Apparently the thumbscrews work better on belts and thinner straps in general. For thicker straps you’ll want to use the longer hex screws. The Peak Design Capture Clip is designed to be light, ergonomic, and to provide a handy way of carrying your camera /lens/binos on the go. When attached to your backpack strap, you hardly notice the Capture Clip is there. Speaking of lenses, the other less-than-ideal factor is that the clip doesn’t work that well with a telephoto lens.

Want to build a mobile kit?

Excellent image quality, powerful autofocus and great looking video are the least you can expect. @Tommi K1 Never said there aren't other options out there, even stated using a similar option. Regardless of which option you choose, it's still more convenient than having the camera swing around your neck on a strap or to dig through a bag to pull it out. I think expecting a DSLR-oriented strap piece to play nice with a compact body like G11 may be too much to ask for. We can, perhaps, fault PD for not having a very small plate to work with tiny MILCs and compacts. For what it is worth, I use the V3 with a Fuji X-H1, Nikon D750 and Nikon D800, usually with prime lenses up to about 85mm, or (or equivalent) zooms.

How the Peak Design Capture Clip Works

Any more tightening and you might mess with your strap. It’s an exciting feeling when you find a piece of gear that solves the exact problem you’ve been struggling with on the trail. I missed a lot of photo ops before I bought the Peak Design Capture Clip. Now, though, I’m always ready — whether I’m hiking, camping, backpacking, or kayaking. Those of us who like to take photos in the woods, whether professional or amateur, often carry bulky gear and DSLRs. That means choosing between carrying the weight in your hands or around your neck.

The Pro Pad v3 only purpose is as an accessory to the Pro Capture Clip, which should be included with every purchase. If one needs to replace a Pro Pad then, by all means, charge for it. Though I feel $19 is a little steep for what it is. $9.99 would be more appropriate.

Peak Design Capture Clip Review Final Words

I have hiked heavily with V2 of this Peak clip. It is fantastic, and I've run it through some real tough experiences. Easy to use, and the camera only comes out when you want.

It's the first one I'd ever seen, bought or owned. It's also the only one that I know of that allows the same clip to be used for bags, belts, and the camera part can also be used for attaching to the quick release plate on tripods. In fact, all of their products (that I've tried) are excellent. They have the best (smallest, lightest, fastest) quick-release clips in the business. This product isn't really aimed at the larger camera market. Anyone using heavier gear uses Spider-Holster or other products which are a bit beefier and do attach to the lens mount on larger lenses.

It’s an irritation that becomes more pronounced with bigger lenses. I think the capture clip is maybe a $40 product, and the pro pad while made well is still overpriced and too stiff for anything mirrorless. Overall for the price point of $69.95 the Capture Clip V3 isn’t cheap, but it’s worth the money if you’re looking for a new approach to the way you carry your camera. And if you’re looking to add another clip to your arsenal or upgrade from a previous version, you have the option of buying just the Clip alone for the lower price of $49.95. Peak Design says the Capture is rated for up to 90 kg / 200 lb so safety-wise almost anything you would put on there is a non-issue.

What's your bag?

This is particularly so if standing on the edge of a wind blown cliff or tall building. At its simplest, the Peak Design Capture Clip V3 is two metal plates that are held together. One of the plates attaches to the bottom of your camera just like any tripod plate. The other attaches to a strap on your bag (or any similar location, like your belt) and holds the first plate in place.

It does this with elegance and durability, and in such a way that it’s hard to imagine anything else being more than marginally better, if better at all. That’s why it is a ‘wheel’ of a product; it performs in accordance with the essence of its purpose. For me, it’s a staple because it improves my ability to be mobile and execute shots as I feel inspired to do so. As the best kind of gear does, it facilitates photography. That said, harness systems have a big advantage of their own.

@woodyggg Peculiar then that Jimothy's experience exactly mirrors my own.I also thought that the system might be great to have the camera handy and my hands free for light climbing on difficult paths. But in practice the camera-lens combo got in the way quite often, and I felt it was very vulnerable against banging into rock and such. In many cases, I put it back into my backpack because I felt uneasy, despite also having insurance. I personally would not recommend this product for large camera+ lens combo. I believe the product is well made and it says what it does. I did a bend test on the joint and I can certain that it is very strong.

It seems pretty heavy at first, but once I was wearing my pack I didn’t really notice it. Great way to carry a camera while hiking or shooting outdoors. They may show very slight non-functional cosmetic wear, but work (and often look) as good as new.

The camera just sat by my side where I could keep a hand on it, and I could lift it and use it quickly without the worry of something coming loose. It also wasn't terribly visible, as it was tucked away under my arm, and I could also pull my jacket entirely over it, and zip it up. I used a Pacsafe quick detach anti-slash camera strap for extra strength. After 10 days of travel I am still very happy with the way it worked out. I hike with the peak design leash attached to my backpack and the capture clipped in.

Once attached to something it's not hard to remove and replace. I tried it on both my Peak Design Everyday Backpack and my nearly decade old Camelbak backpack and it fit securely on both. I once almost dropped the camera when I was using it, because the screw got loose.

From 100 feet up, you can even see the tranquil waters of the leeward shore. Aruba is actually considered to be one of the safest of all the Caribbean islands. Even though that is true, it’s still an island in a region where petty crime, though relatively low, in Aruba still exists. Generally, the best time to visit Aruba is the period between April to August. With warm weather year-round, there is not really a bad time to visit this beautiful island.

Aruban culture is all about the spirit of celebration and having an appreciation for the diversity of the island. Aruba is famous for its colorful architecture and you'll find plenty of it on your Southern Caribbean Cruise to Oranjestad, the island's capital. The Dutch buildings house everything from restaurants to shops and bars and allow you to see what it's like to live like a local. You can walk to the lush Wilhelmina Park, which honors Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands with a sculpture made with bright white marble, and see the California lighthouse, which is one of Aruba's most famous landmarks.

As the cruise traveler reaches the exit gates of the port, the Bus Terminal is right in front – not only very conveniently located but with clear maps of the routes and bus fares to all major destinations (in particular the beaches). Oranjestad (the capital and cruise port of Aruba) is a neat city, clean, very well kept, and organized, which from the moment you step out of the cruise ship embraces you with a sense of relaxed safety. Norwegian Cruise Line offers several cruise itineraries featuring the ABC islands, which are comprised of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao. These islands are located within close proximity to one another in the Southern Caribbean, also known as the Dutch Caribbean.

South and WestCaribbean cruise ports

Being tucked within Tampa Bay on Florida’s west coast, it is not surprising that Tampa has developed into a busy cruise port for Western and Southern Caribbean itineraries throughout the year. All the famous cruise lines offer cruises that embark at Tampa, Florida, and visit Oranjestad, Aruba. During your visit to Aruba, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the charming city of Oranjestad, relax on world-famous beaches like Eagle Beach and Palm Beach, and venture into the breathtaking landscapes of Arikok National Park.

The first destination is Aruba; afterward, you'll hit Curaçao, Grenada, Dominica, St. Thomas of the U.S. Join 2,200 other passengers on Celebrity Summit for a seven-night cruise that will take you from Puerto Rico to St. Kitts and Nevis, Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire and back. Onboard, dine in one of three elegant restaurants, including one exclusive for the suite class. Shop for fine jewelry and the most fashionable clothes on the European-inspired piazza. There is also an alfresco movie theater, bars, lounges and an adults-only solarium. From the moment you step foot on the island, the warm and welcoming locals will make you feel at home, and the stunning natural beauty will leave you in awe. By keeping these tips in mind, you’ll be well-prepared to make the most of your visit to Aruba during your cruise vacation. Remember to embrace the island’s beauty, immerse yourself in its culture, and create lasting memories of your time in this Caribbean paradise.

Topping it all off is a sommelier that pairs every course with a fine wine chosen to complement and highlight the flavors you’re experiencing. For example, Royal Caribbean offers an 11-night cruise spanning, Boston, San Juan, Willemstad, Oranjestad, George Town, and Tampa aboard the Brilliance of the Sea cruise liner. Accommodations on this ship include 4 room types, ranging from Interior Cabins perfect for couples to Ocean Suites featuring balconies and spacious interiors capable of sleeping 4 guests.

Aruba is one of the most popular destinations in the south Caribbean itineraries. And there are good reasons why this island is a first sight love for most cruisers. Get ready to embark on a memorable journey to Aruba, where sunshine, turquoise waters, and the enchanting spirit of the Caribbean await you. Explore this “One Happy Island” and create beautiful memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you choose to cruise with popular lines like Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian, Princess, or MSC, you can rest assured that your journey to Aruba will be filled with excitement and wonder.

British line P&O Cruises operates its relatively new megaship Iona in the fjords region for much of that period, with regular departures from Southampton on a popular 7-day itinerary. One such trip is this 12-night itinerary from Celebrity Cruises, which includes a visit to both Visby and Tallinn. Other highlights include a visit to Stockholm and Copenhagen, including an overnight stop in the latter. Papiamento and Dutch are the official languages and English and Spanish are often spoken by locals as well. Like the other two islands, Curaçao is hot and it's important to pack accordingly. To really see the island, it's recommended that you rent a car and you'll need a credit card to do so.

Oranjestad, Aruba Best of Aruba Excursion Norwegian Cruise Line

As part of the broader Disney world, Disney Cruise Line ships come with a number of unique benefits. Select cruises offer the opportunity to extend your vacation with a trip to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida before or after your cruise. The magic of Aruba meets the wonder of Disney when Disney Cruise Line sails to Oranjestad. When taking a cruise to Aruba, guests will find themselves at Oranjestad Aruba Cruise Port, which is conveniently located within walking distance of various restaurants, bars, shops, and fun activities like Jeep Safari Tours. Incredibly white sands and cobalt blue seas make the small island of Aruba a popular destination. In the bustling freeport town of Oranjestad, sherbet-colored Dutch colonial buildings, draped in bougainvillea, oleander and hibiscus are simply picturesque.

Must-Have Travel Accessories

Just like the arts and culture, Aruba's food is a mix of Caribbean, Dutch, African, and Latin American flavors. Fresh seafood, fried delicacies, wholesome stews, and tasty soups are all incorporated. Dishes like pan bati (a sweet and soft flatbread), cabrito stoba (a popular goat stew), and keri keri (a delicious fish soup) are all local staples and easy to find around the island. For drinks, there's beer (the most popular is Balashi) and cocktails like Aruba Ariba, which has a distinctive bright red color. For desserts, go with bolo di banana, a plantain pudding, or with pan bollo, a bread pudding served with rum sauce and a side of vanilla ice cream. Aboard Crown Princess, you'll embark on a 10-day exploration of six Southern Caribbean islands in a round trip beginning in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

East Caribbean cruise port guides

Now, let’s explore the myriad of things to do and see in Aruba that will make your cruise experience truly unforgettable. So, whether you’re looking to embark on thrilling adventures, unwind on picture-perfect beaches, immerse yourself in the local culture, or indulge in delectable cuisine, Aruba has something for everyone. Let’s now delve into the popular cruise lines that choose Aruba as one of their destinations, and discover the various ports and attractions awaiting your arrival. One of the main reasons to choose Aruba for a cruise is its convenient location. Positioned outside the hurricane belt, Aruba enjoys a stable climate throughout the year, making it a reliable destination for cruises.

What to Do in the Southern Caribbean

One of the busiest beaches on Aruba is surely the Palm Beach, which houses most of the resorts and pulls the largest tourist crowd. The climate in Aruba is Tropical Marine with little seasonal temperature variation. Aruba's weather has hot summers (sometimes very hot) and warm winters, with little to minimal precipitation. There is a Tourist Information Desk conveniently located at the Cruise Terminal, usually maned all day, where you can get maps and brochures. Surely you will not miss any of these streets if you look out for the tram tracks or the tram itself which offers both transportation and sightseeing to Plaza Nicky and back.

If you want to experience some of these modern amenities and accommodations, Norwegian Cruise Line offers a 21-day trip that spans California, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Santa Maria, Oranjestad, Willemstad, and New York. Brilliance of the Sea also offers several premium bars and lounges, like the swanky Schooner Bar. Here, guests can enjoy live music from a piano while sipping their favorite cocktails.

Oranjestad, Aruba

The convenient location, reliable weather, and well-equipped cruise ports make Aruba an ideal destination for cruise ships of various sizes and itineraries. These are just a few of the many remarkable destinations and ports that await you during your cruise to Aruba. Each offers a unique experience, whether it’s immersing yourself in the vibrant culture of Oranjestad, basking in the beauty of Aruba’s beaches, or exploring the island’s remarkable natural wonders.

In addition, you can easily find imported Dutch beer with most establishments. The Aruban specialties include Keshi yena (a meat mixture of either chicken or beef packed with delicious Gouda cheese), Cala (bean fritters), Stoba (goat stew), Ayacas (leaf-wrapped meat rolls) and Pastechi (cheese-stuffed turnovers). In contrast, Arashi Beach offers lots of peace and solitude if you are looking to get away from the crowds. Just across the street from the terminal, there are some malls, and as soon as you exit to the left, you’ll find a small market in the Royal Plaza selling trinkets from the stalls. Though they are politically connected to Netherlands – Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao might just be the best year-round Caribbean destinations for you and your family.

For example, Breeze features an onboard waterpark known as WaterWorks—that’s right, this cruise ship has a massive waterpark located right on the ship! With Rides like Twister—a high-speed waterslide that spans hundreds of feet—and Speedway Splash that features special lighting effects, WaterWorks offers great fun in the sun for travelers of all ages. Downtown Oranjestad offers many shopping options that are convenient for cruisers ranging from upscale retailers to bargain vendors.

Some may also include the highlights of the Baltic Sea region, including the Baltic countries and ports in the north of Germany and Poland. Then drive through the countryside and discover Aruba’s flora and fauna in route to the Casibari Rock formation – huge diorite boulders found in the center of the island. Board your bus and continue on to the mysterious California Lighthouse for a short stop to enjoy a breathtaking view of the island. A stop at the beach for a swim in the spectacular turquoise ocean concludes your tour, before returning to the cruise terminal. Depending on the booking situation, various excursions are also offered in German, Spanish, French, Italian or Russian (minimum number of 30 participants). Although you may read reviews stating that "change may come in local currency", in over 20 years visiting Aruba on cruise ships this never happened to any of IQCruising editors.

It can take a whole day to see it properly so make sure to stop by the visitor center and museum to plan your visit. Bonaire has a whooping 22 beaches to discover and the island offers soft sand beaches as well as rugged coastline. Atlantis Beach is ideal for kiteboarders, white-sand seekers and those looking for a long beach stroll while Te Amo Beach has tranquil waters with a sandy shoreline and great snorkeling nearby. Playa Chikitu, which is located inside the Washington Slagbaai National Park, is a remote cove with white sand dunes, luminescent waters and sea turtle nests. Be careful there because the currents are strong and swimming is not allowed.

norwegian cruise to aruba

If you don’t mind using your bargaining skills, you can walk away with some really awesome keepsakes for good prices. Spots you should see include Christoffelpark, which is a protected park with a peak that's the island's highest at 375 meters above sea level. You should also visit the Hato Caves, which has stalactites, stalagmites, underground lakes and waterfalls. For beaches, Cas Abao, Playa Lagun, Playa Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara Beach all offer white sandy shores great for swimming, snorkeling or just lounging. Also stop by Cosecha, a century-old building bursting with local arts and crafts in Oranjestad, and The Creative Center, which is connected to Cosecha and has art classes.

If you aren’t shopping or sightseeing in Aruba, you could spend the day on one of the beaches. DePalm Island and Snorkel tour is by far the best beach day getaway in Aruba. This “no hassle” day trip already includes lunch, drinks, lounge chairs, and changing rooms, so you don’t have to worry about anything. Just bring your towel and sunscreen, and enjoy your day with the white sand and turquoise waters providing the perfect backdrop for your relaxing day on the beach.

So, no matter what you could be looking for in a cruise to Aruba and beyond, Disney Cruise Line offers options for the entire family. When traveling to Aruba, we recommend this 7-day trip spanning San Juan, Basseterre, Oranjestad, Willemstad, and Kralendijk aboard the Celebrity Summit. And this is especially true when it comes to cruises in the Caribbean, as it’s quite possible to see the very best of the Caribbean in a single, unforgettable trip. Layered clothing accommodates the region's variable weather, while specialized gear might be necessary for specific excursions. The height of summer can be marred by heavy rainfall, while it’s possible to get sunburnt in the snow-covered conditions of February and March.

Aruba offers a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, culture, and natural wonders, making it an ideal destination for a cruise vacation. So, whether you’re a beach lover, an adrenaline junkie, or a history enthusiast, Aruba has something special for everyone. Whether you prefer beachside relaxation, thrilling adventures, or immersing yourself in the island’s culture and natural wonders, Aruba offers a diverse range of experiences that will leave you with unforgettable memories.

If you like upscale, high-end shopping, you should check out the Renaissance Mall and Marketplace which is home to many luxury retailers. Lastly, the Wharfside Flea Market offers bargain deals for t-shirts, hats, bags, beach towels, crafts and all types of souvenirs.
